![]() On Wednesday August 11, 2010, 2 year old Connor was getting a bath from his mom, Crissy, like they do every night. There was lots of splashing, laughing, playing around, with mom almost as wet as Connor! It was just a look, a glance that caught mom's attention. There was an odd reflection in Connor's left eye that she had not seen before. Connor slept like a rock that night, as always. Mom didn't sleep a wink. On Thursday morning, August 12, 2010, Crissy and John Thomas made an appointment to have Connor seen by their doctor. He was immediately sent for evaluation by a retinal specialist. The appointment was delayed for a day while the family worked on trying to make payment arrangements, since they are without health insurance. This was all happening at what seemed like the speed of light. On Friday, August 13th, Connor was placed under anesthesia while his eyes were scoped, searched, evaluated by the retina specialist. Then, almost out of nowhere, came the words no parents want to hear: "Your son has cancer." Specifically, Retinoblastoma. A cancerous tumor was found in his left eye. Here we go.

Connor's Family
In 2002, the Thomas family moved to Colorado from Florida with 4 children in tow and a bright future. John was a sales man who was doing well in the marine market. Crissy stayed home with the children, Cody, Haylie, Nick and Jake. Two years ago, they welcomed a bright light into their home, known to many as "Baby Connor". Who could ask for more? Suddenly, the economy took a turn for the worse and like so many Americans, John's job was in trouble. In the summer of 2009 John lost his job and like so many, has struggled to find work in the last year. In an effort to provide for 5 children, John and Crissy did all they could, eventually draining savings and retirement funds. John's unemployment benefits terminate at the end of September, and they no longer had health insurance. Just 13 days later, Connor was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, eye cancer. Within 48 hours of diagnosis and at the advice of their doctor, John, Crissy and Connor were on a plane to Philadelphia to meet with world-renowned specialists in treating this type of cancer. So much hope came from knowing you have taken your baby to the best there is, until treatment for Connor began to be denied due to lack of insurance and non-existent personal resources. As a family of strong Christian faith and devote members of their church, Waterstone Community Church, Crissy and John have been relying on their faith along with the love and prayers of friends and family to get through such a devastating time. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to have spent time with the Thomas family knows what a wonderful, caring and loving people they are. Even during this hard economic time, John and Crissy are always willing to do and give to others. There is an old African proverb that says "It takes a village to raise a child" and it will take a village to help Connor. Please help this family provide care to little Connor by giving. All funds will enable Connor to continue to get the care that he needs.
